I have found many wrong things posted up what people put on my family names, even children that are to old for there parents. I have gone and done research my self and found in books more. And I payed a researcher when I could not find enough imformation in my counties where my ancestors were and it payed off and was worth it. I have found out that Liburay's and the intermet does not have everything on them. People need to get more imformation about there people. Donna
Yes, and I'll be glad to share them when I get home. I'm on vacation, in Halifax actually, right now. Also, if you don't know it, Caleb Dodson applied for a Rev War pension. I noticed the record today. Please contact me after the 4th of July weekend. I should be home probably that Saturday. Bobbi Estes -------------- Original message -------------- > No, I don't. Surnames: Dodson Justice Seabrook Conrad Lingenfelter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RKT.2ACIB/1473 Message Board Post: Who is buried in Michael Dodson’s grave? Revolutionary War pensioner Michael Dodson is said to be buried in the Dodson family cemetery on the Musselman farm in Freedom Township, Blair County, PA, next to Thomas Dodson, also thought to be a Revolutionary War veteran. Sources for the assertion that Michael Dodson is buried there include: “Soldiers of Blair County, Pennsylvania”, Floyd G. Hoenstine (Hollidaysburg PA, 1940) p. 35. “Bedford County PA in the American Revolution”, James B. Whisker (Apollo PA, 1985) p. 76. “Cemeteries of Freedom Twp. Vol.1”, Blair County Genealogical Society (Hollidaysburg PA, 1991) p. 13. I haven’t been to the cemetery to view the stones. I think the most accurate transcription of the information on the two stones comes from a report, found at the Blair County Genealogical Society, prepared by Boy Scout Troop 59 (Newry, PA) who cleaned up the cemetery: Row 5, #8 “M. D. B. S. 6 1751 Dec No 9 1830” Row 5, #9 “T. D. B M 11 1741 DI May 24 1831 Revolutionary War Veteran” “M. D.” is assumed to stand for Michael Dodson. I think this is not Michael Dodson’s grave but probably is the grave of the wife of Thomas Dodson. While there is no doubt Michael Dodson spent a large portion of his adult life in what is now Blair County PA, there is considerable doubt that he died and is buried there. Two sources (which, admittedly, are not the most reliable sources a researcher could hope for) indicate that Michael Dodson died in Ohio. “A Portrait & Biographical Record of Putnam County, Ohio” A.W. Brown & Co. Michael Dodson “came to Ohio and lived in Muskingum county with his son Joseph, the father of our subject, and died either in Muskingum or Morgan county.” In this note the spellings Dottson and Dotson are used. I suspect Michael’s father was Michael Dodson, son of Thomas Dodson and Mary Prigg, who married a “Welsh lady”, Ann Evans, in Chester Co, PA and who was living in Maryland by 1760.
Hi, I have a Sarah Conrad born about the same time frame as Thomas, but no sure date or proven marriage for her...she seems to have disappeared. Do you know anything about Thomas' Sarah? I also have a Dodson connection in Blair Co., East Freedom area, but not Thomas' father. They were probably related in some way, however. Joseph Seabrook Dodson was married to a Susannah Conrad, who evidently had some connection to my Sarah's father, Henry J. Conrad. They all lived in the same neck of the woods as the other early Dodsons, and two of Joseph S's daughters married Lingenfelters, who were also living in that same area. All those families are very interconnected, and sorting them out is difficult. I have lots of info on Dodsons other than my Joseph S. but have never been able to figure out his relationship to the others. You'll probably hear from Marge Dodson Lingenfelter, who has tons of info, but if not, let me know and I'll send you her address. If anyone knows about your Dodsons, she will. Thank you for the information. I'd be interested in any further information you might have on either the Dodson or Bennet lines. You can email me if you'd rather. What is the name of your Santee connection. It was truly small world at that time and there very well could be two lines that crossed paths. Thanks again, Nancy
