Got my result in and I am DF85-. Chromo2 still pending. It seems to be a common belief that the Donegal McFaddens are at least in part descended from Scottish Gallowglass mercenaries who arrived in the 15th-16th century. I'm still trying to find original sources for this, but have no reason to doubt it. The McFaddens in Donegal are clustered in Sweeney territory, whose Gallowglass background is well-documented. It will be interesting to see if I end up grouped in one of the Scottish branches of M222. I'd love to find some Scottish McFadyens willing to test so we can see if the Donegal and Argyll groups are related. The McFadyens are thought to be one of the oldest SCottish clans with a chief having allied with Somerled in his time, but the exact origins are unknown other than the thought that they originally came from Ireland. There are definitely multiple McFadden families (some non-M222 and possibly some unrelated groups within M222) and not nearly enough testees, so this is definitely a work in progress. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/mcfadden/default.aspx?section=ycolorized
