The Normans in Ulster were known for their divide and conquer tactics, meddling in clan affairs, even at times annointing chieftains. I checked in the annals and there is no mention of a Cu maighe na nGall close to the time of the Battle of Down. Not until 1375 and that is probably a different Cu Maighe. This later Cu Maighe is well known because there's some kind of tomb bearing his name. John
