To anyone who's interested Susan Hedeen recently wrote/compiled a report at my request that compares the haplotypes of 10 McDevitt samples and 6 Doherty samples. From the findings of this report the compared haplotypes do seem to support the historically documented links between these 2 families. The report compares not only the McDevitts to the Dohertys @ 67 markers but also the McDevitts to each other @ 37 markers and shows that the McDevitts, or at least all the samples available thus far, are divided into 2 primary branches. Unfortunately half of the McDevitt samples (5) that were provided have only tested to 37 markers so they were not included in the comparison with the Doherty samples. Until more data becomes available this is a big step forward in establishing a genetic link between these families and I'm hopeful that soon we will find a SNP unique to the Doherty's and McDevitts.
