Doug, Check out Alex Williamson's "BigY" tree here: http://www.littlescottishcluster.com/RL21/NGS/Tree.html You can see your kit number under M222 section, this puts your BigY results in context of other M222+ BigY. 3. Doug, you are already known to be negative (ancestral) for the three new sub-branches of S660 from inspection of your BAM file. You are in a waiting game for someone else to come along and match you. Unless you want to splash out for the more expensive FullGenomes test but that won't find you new matches, more it would potentially add to your list of private SNPs. That would be a decision that needs careful weighing up to ensure you understood what you would and wouldn't get out of it. 3. Yes, I received an email from Ancestry the other day - I assumed everyone would have received one about the same time. They are no longer supporting Y-dna (or mtDNA) at all. Existing samples will be destroyed and the entire database will be deleted. I transferred to FTDNA some time ago, but of course I will no longer be able to compare my results with those of other Ancestry customers if they don't transfer. Furthermore MyFamily.com is also being discontinued. The O'Molloy genealogy project to which I belong will no longer exist. The facility for comparing results with other project members has not been available for some time. I stopped receiving y-dna match notifications a couple of years ago. I had asked Ancestry a few times what was going on, and all they did was pat me on the head and say "There there everything's going to be fine!" Not very nice. I received an email from FTDNA on Friday, June 06, 2014 12:25PM with the subject heading: "Transfer Y-DNA Data Before It's Too Late!" The email states the following: Dear Group Administrators, On Thursday, Ancestry.comT announced that they will no longer sell Y-DNA and mtDNA tests. Additionally, the results from past Y-DNA and mtDNA tests will no longer be available after September 5, 2014. There are no guarantee on what the future holds for Ancestry.com'sT autosomal DNA offering so we strongly recommend that you tell people that tested with Ancestry.comT to transfer their Y-DNA and Autosomal DNA to Family Tree DNA where our main focus is genetic genealogy. mtDNA is not transferable because of compatibility issues. Family Tree DNA is committed to supporting these valuable genealogical tests today and in the future. You should encourage anyone who has tested with Ancestry.comT to transfer their record to Family Tree DNA as soon as possible. The Y-DNA and Autosomal DNA transfer options are listed below: I happened to meet a friend today (while walking my dogs) who works at Ancestry, and she confirmed that Ancestry.com is discontinuing their Y-DNA and mtDNA but keeping their AutosmalDNA. That is different from what FTDNA is saying. I told her that I have tested with Ancestry but I had not received an email from ancestry. I guess I need to follow up on this with Ancestry. Has anyone else heard anything on this? 3. Iain, I was surprised to discover that Degnen and I, both of the S660 group, have an African Aborigine SNP marker, according to Big Y, albeit quite ancient. And although I tested DF85- (negative), I am wondering if I could be of any other sub-branch or downstream branch of S660. Otherwise I am willing to play the waiting game. Thank goodness for the Internet, but that is how this game gets played. 3. Hi Kelly, I have been at this for more than a few years now, and so let me assure you that family names in Ireland and in Scotland have often changed, sometimes simply because a family or an individual person migrated from one place to another and then adopted the name of the dominant family of their new home region. Yeah, that might make no sense but apparently that was customary in those times. And then there is quite faulty record keeping, of both church and state, not to mention the great range in the spelling of Anglicized Gaelic family names. For instance, my family began as O'Muirgheasain. But, after going through as many spelling changes as a person has fingers, could you know what my name is now? We, nearly all of us, are lucky to be able to trace our family records back for a couple of hundred years or so. Therefore, today we rely on genetics. 3. 37 STR markers is where the action begins, and 67 STR markers is where the citizen-scientists here will begin to take you seriously. And the Big Y SNP markers will put you on the genetic map. Yeah, that is how this genetic game gets played. Doug FTDNA 196477 On Mon, Jun 9, 2014 at 12:45 PM, McKee <ldm.127187@gmail.com> wrote: > E-mail not displaying correctly? 3. I have just returned from a reunion of previously unmet PADEN cousins so a bit exhausted and catching up. Just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions. If my cousin will agree to another kit I will test a few additional makers as suggested with YSEQ. If not I will go for two at FTDNA. I am waiting to hear back from him. Hopefully so I can order before Father's DAY at YSEQ. It is my suspicion that as in my WHEATON DNA project There may be a number of legitimate ( not NPE) lines that adopted the PADEN/PEDEN/PADDON name as a diminutive of Patrick son of Patrick or some variation. ours from the DNA and match evidence so far clearly has a connection with Coleraine, Londonderry and looks like A connection with MAXWELLS in Ayrshire, Scotland. Not there yet but getting closer. I will have more when I get some sleep. McKown S603 (Chromo2) Ken Beirne FGC4077 (YSEQ) All interesting of course and congratulations, I hope if anyone in S660* has deferred followup testing this will encourage them to proceed as the sub-branching is quite fascinating... http://www.kennedydna.com/M222.pdf Iain

    3. If you have tested Y at Ancestry you should have received an email from them about it, I did. I guess if you have only done the autosomal for example then you won't hear from them. FTDNA are trying it on a bit by the sounds of things, trying to get everyone worried that the autosomal is going to be ditched too. In fact Ancestry are ditching the older two tests so they can *concentrate* on autosomal. 1. [R-M222] Transfer Y-DNA Data Before It's Too Late!
    2. Bob Doherty
    3. Bob Doherty Doherty Surname Group co-administrator
