Not a huge amount of people using the old M222 rootsweb site (well not since it had an outage). However it should be noted that not everyone on this list is from the USA. He's DF85+ ... DF97+ .. Z29319+ As far as I know this is one of the first O'Donnell results to do the M222 bundle. He has perhaps the largest number of matches I've ever seen at 67 markers (nearly 1,100!) several of them are also O'Donnell's, this particular tester is based in Munster but one of his close matches in Ireland is from Donegal with known genealogy back to mid 18th century. Kit #: 471174 Currently tested to 67 STR's will probably do an upgrade to 111 markers at next sale. Obviously it's interesting to see the DF97+ result in context of several O'Doherty's we know who are also DF97+, the O'Donnell family and O'Doherty's formed part of the *Cen?l Lugdach *within the *Cen?l Conaill*. Hopefully we will see some of the other O'Donnell's doing the bundle to confirm. -Paul (DF41+) ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 2 May 2016 09:54:28 +1000 From: Margaret and Geoff Melloy <mg_melloy@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [R-M222] O'Donnell M222 bundle result (DF97+, z29319+) To: <R1b-M222-Project@yahoogroups.com>, "dna-r1b1c7@rootsweb.com" <DNA-R1B1C7@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <BLU171-DS448D08E1BE0B13388A9AFB84780@phx.gbl> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="utf-8"; reply-type=original Hopefully we might get some Gallagher bundles or Big Y's soon too, to help flesh out the Cenel Aeda branch. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Duffy via Sent: Monday, May 02, 2016 6:15 AM To: R1b-M222-Project@yahoogroups.com ; dna-r1b1c7@rootsweb.com Subject: [R-M222] O'Donnell M222 bundle result (DF97+, z29319+) All, In the Ireland project we got an Irish based O'Donnell who just received his M222 bundle results (well most of them some SNP's still awaited). Paul, Regarding numbers of matches: As of today (May 2), my 3 Coyne relatives, one of whom is a member of your Ireland DNA project, all of whom have identical haplotypes on FTDNA, have 2,128 matches at 67 markers and 285 at 111 markers. I've started thinking of my late brother as a universal match! His son is confirmed A725. The only explanation I've ever seen for this many matches is convergence. Our Coyne family emigrated to Brooklyn, NY in the 1840s and most probably comes from County Roscommon, near Athlone. Apologies this and the other email on L513 was meant for the L21 group (grand parent group of M222). ---------------------------------------- > From: bernardmorgan@hotmail.com > To: dna-r1b1c7@rootsweb.com > Subject: Does L513 include the Strathclyde Britons? > Date: Mon, 15 Feb 2016 04:57:48 +0000 > > Within the L513 testees are surnames Welsh and Walsh, point to Brythonic speakers being part of L513. > > The Kennedys of Carrick (L513?) are called captains of Clann Muintir Casduff, although Clann and Muintir are Gaelic, Casduff is believed to be Brythonic is origin. > >
Wikipedia has the entry under Sil Conairi "Two distantly related tales of more interest to genealogists are De Síl Chonairi Móir[8] and De Maccaib Conaire.[9] In these he is confused with his descendant or double Conaire Cóem, father of Na Trí Coirpri "The Three Cairbres", namely Coirpre Músc, a quo the Múscraige and Corcu Duibne, Coirpre Baschaín, a quo the Corcu Baiscinn, and Coirpre Rígfhota (Riata), a quo the Dál Riata." plus "According to tradition, the last king in the 'direct' male line from the Clanna Dedad and Síl Conairi was Alexander III of Scotland (d. 19 March 1286)." The Corcu Duibne consist of three families: The O Failbhe and O Conghaile, which seem to be A151+ and hence Eoghnacht. However O Seagha (O'Shea) from Kerry are reportedly L513+. If true members of Corcu Duibne are L513 then they could be related to L513 in Scotland and hence support a common identity as Sil Conairi. Are there more L513 families from Munster? i.e. the Múscraige and Corcu Baiscinn.
Within the L513 testees are surnames Welsh and Walsh, point to Brythonic speakers being part of L513. The Kennedys of Carrick (L513?) are called captains of Clann Muintir Casduff, although Clann and Muintir are Gaelic, Casduff is believed to be Brythonic is origin.
Is there any evidence that there were native Irish of the Fanad in County Donegal that converted to the Reformed Church and then Presbyterian? I was not aware that there was the Reformed Church in Ireland during the 1600s. I thought the Reformed Church was Dutch? I am aware that the Fanad has always been predominantly native Irish but there are still a lot of Scottish names in the Fanad and the Fanad was part of the Ulster Plantation. Interesting. On a slightly different tack - considering the sequence of SNPs DF85 -> S673 -> S668 -> DF97 etc, is there any currently favoured theory on the point (if any) at which the trail moved from N Ireland to SW Scotland? e.g. did S668 originate in NI then spread to Scotland where DF97 arose - or what? and did these SNPs then spread back to NI with further diverification? I believe in John Preebles "Glencoe The Story Of The Massacre" quotes an Anglican priests for Inishowen, were the MacIains where resettled. He tells of Presbyterian and Catholic missionaries actively converting locals in Inishowen. I would assume the same for Fanad.
