In the 1850 census of Norwalk, CT, Justus Disbrow, age 24, a carpenter, and Minerva Disbrow, age 24, were living in the household of Hiram Durand, a shoemaker. The headstone of "Justice Disbrow" in the Norwalk cemetery states that he died near Athens, Alabama on 5 July 1862. This was during the Civil War of course but I can find no evidence of any military service on the part of Justus Disbrow. Disbrow Ground cem., Kent, Putnam Co., NY Anon Disbrow lived in New Fairfield, CT, until sometime between 1832 and 1834 when he moved his family to Kent, Putnam Co., NY. In the 1850 census of Kent, "Anon Dizebrow" was 45 years old, a blacksmith, living with his wife "Leckey" 45, daughter "Lawrey Ann" 17 and son George 14. They were residing in the household of Ezekial Ketcham, age 80, a farmer. There are two headstones for Anon in Putnam Co. One is with his first wife and son George in the Patterson Baptist cem. The other is in the so-called "Disbrow Ground" in Kent with his second wife Lockey. The two stones disagree as to his death date, the former reads 28 Feb., but the latter reads 27 Feb, which agrees with the Jesse Disbrow family Bible record. I think it might be interesting to include the description of the "Disbrow Ground" burial place as stated in the book "Old Gravestones of Putnam Co., NY": "DISBROW GROUND. This ground, also called the Church Hill Road Farm Plot, may be reached by mounting the hill by the 2nd Kent Baptist Church to the junction of the Church Hill Rd. with the Pecksville Rd. The ground is at the edge of the road on the left-hand, or the southern, part of the junction. DISBROW, Anon, d. Feb. 27, 1865, 61y. " Lockey, w. Anon, d. Mar. 3, 1877, 72y. GRIFFITH, Epenetus, d. Laura Ann was the dau. listed with Anon and Lockey in the 1850 census. In Willis' household were one male between 5 and 9, two males 20-29, one female 20-29 and one female 40-49. He seems not to have been listed as a head of family in 1840. By 1850 he was in Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY, a farmer with real estate valued at $7000. In the census he was listed as age 43, with his wife Paulina 43, Edward Duncan 26, William T[ ? ] 13 and Mary E. Richmond 30. In the 1871-2 Columbia Co. business directory, Willis Disbrow is listed as a farmer in Harlemville with 42 acres. No known children. A George G. Disbrow, listed directly below Davis and leasing from him, may have been a son. I had some correspondence with Frances M. Pascoe (age 83) of Grosse Pointe, MI, in 1988, concerning her grandmother, Lois (Disbrow) Garvey of Hillsdale, NY. I never received any dates or more definite data from Frances except the fact that Lois's son (Frances' father) was named Davis Disbrow Garvey. On that clue we might guess that Lois was a daughter of Davis Disbrow. [see ADDENDA for (5-7-5) Platt Disbrow, p. 323] References: fam. data of Jean B. Jane's headstone, per the Charles Hale Collection, reads that she d. 12 Dec. 1891, age 74-6, but her death notice appeared in the "Danbury [CT] Times" 16 Sep. 1891 and states that she d. 12 Sep. He was listed in the census that year with his wife Mary 28 and son Henry 2. His older brothers Willis and Davis also lived in Hillsdale. Apparently he moved back to CT a few years later. In 1860 (according to the census index) a Stephen Disbrow was living in Fairfield, CT. And by the time of the 1880 census we find Stephen P. Disbrow listed in New Milford, Litchfield Co., CT, age 62, with his wife Sophia 50, and children Frederick W. 19, Elizabeth P. 15 and Floyd M. 6. I haven't discovered where or when Stephen's first wife Mary died. Jean Newhall's family data says that he and Sophia Chase were married 25 Nov. 1848, but that date doesn't jibe with the 1850 census which shows Mary as the wife of Stephen. The first child Henry was certainly the child of Mary, but the mother(s) of the others are uncertain. [see ADDENDA for (5-7-5) Platt Disbrow, p. 323] Children: (5-7-5-5-1) Henry P. b. [Note: Jean Newhall's fam. data says Levi's first wife was named Clomella Wildman. The marr. record in Brookfield, CT, gives her name as above.] m. (2nd) MARY J. BUCKINGHAM b. c1837 CT d. Levi Disbrow, a "waggon maker", was listed in the 1850 census of New Fairfield, CT, with his wife Clarinda 28, and sons James P. 3 and Harry M. 1, all born in CT. He may be the Levi listed in Easton, CT, in the census of 1860. In 1865 he moved west to IL and settled in sec. 17 of Grafton Twp., McHenry Co., near the village of Huntley. He was listed in an 1872 business directory of Huntley as a blacksmith and carriage manufacturer. A distant cousin, (2-8-5-11) Sidney-6 Disbrow, who lived in the nearby town of Alden, IL, mentioned Levi in a letter he wrote to his son Algernon in 1890: "There were Joseph and Nathan Disbrow, brothers ... natives of Fairfield Co., Conn. where there are said to be some of the family still living and I have met some of them who left there about 25 years ago. One, Levi Disbrow, who lived at Huntley, this county, and whose son lives there yet ..." (The son who remained in Huntley was most likely Andrew M. Disbrow.) Levi's widow and probable daughter, Edith, were listed in the 1880 census of Huntley, ages 43 and 12 respectively. His son Andrew Disbrow, also a carriage maker, was living nearby with his wife Ester. [see ADDENDA for (5-7-5) Platt Disbrow, p. 323] Children, by 1st wife: (b.
