He may have been the child called "Terry Disbrow" in the Terry genealogy, son of James and Abigail (Terry). Willett was about 11 when his parents and he moved from Greene Co. to Steuben Co., NY. Through border changes the area became Tyrone in Schuyler Co. The 1877 "History of St. Joseph Co., MI" mentions that Willett Disbrow, a carpenter, came to Centreville in 1835. Evidently he did not stay there long for by 1840 he was back in Steuben Co. In the 1855 census of Tyrone, Willet T. Disbrow was listed, age 52, a farmer, born in Greene Co., NY, and had been a resident of the town for 41 years. His wife Melinda was 47, born Dutchess Co., resident for 28 years. The children listed were Caroline 16, Abby 14, Ida 12 and George 10, all born in Steuben Co. A will is on file in the Schuyler Co. courthouse, Watkins Glen, NY. Children: (all b. Steuben Co.) Lodowick was a farmer in Tyrone, Schuyler Co., NY, having come there from Greene Co., NY, with his parents about 1814. His farm was located on what is now known as Disbrow Hill Road, near Waneta Lake. We find him in the 1850 census of Tyrone listed as L. S. Disbro, age 41, a farmer with real estate valued at $4500, with his wife Mary 36, and children James 12, Ogden T. 11 and Marinda 7. His father James, age 72, also a farmer, was living with them. Mary Ann Disbrow's obit appeared in the "Dundee [NY] Observer", 14 Aug. 1895, and read in part: "Her entire life was that of purity and innocence; her disposition that of kindness, added to a natural jovial nature, made her friends on every hand." She was survived by three sons, James, Ogden and Eugene Disbrow and a sister Mrs. M. I. Ellis. A daughter, Mrs. Marinda Swarthout, died 1 Dec. 1884. Children: (all b. Tyrone) +(3-10-1-2-1) James b. Disbrow was included in the 1850 census of Starkey, Yates Co., NY. He was a farmer with real estate valued at $6500, age 35, with a family including Dorcas 27, Elizabeth M. 13 and Martha T. 8. Living with them were Huldah Willson 17 (born NY) and David Scribner 19 (a laborer, born CT). He was named co-executor, with his brother Ira S., of his father's will, 9 Sep. 1873, with final accounting of the same, 14 July 1876. The obituary of Dorcas Disbrow appeared in the "Dundee [NY] Observer", 4 May 1898: "There passed quietly from our midst on the 22d inst., an old and honored resident of the town of Starkey, Mrs. Dorcas R. Disbrow. For several years she had not enjoyed good health ... Mrs. Dorcas Roblyer [sic] Disbrow was born April 27, 1813 in Warwick, Orange Co., NY. When about three years of age her parents came to the vicinity of Horseheads, and after a few years removed to the Lake Country, as it was then called, in the town of Dix, where she lived until the time of her marriage. She was married Feb. 13, 1834 to Dennis W. Disbrow. In 1840 they moved to the farm where she resided until the time of her death, with the exception of three years that were spent in Dundee ... Mrs. Disbrow was the last survivor of twelve children, all of whom lived to adult age and some to be very old. She is survived by three daughters - Mrs. J. H. Eddington of Eddytown, NY; Mrs. E. M. Carpenter of Clenora, NY; and Mrs. O. P. Gould of Elmira, NY; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren." ANNA PATTEN, dau. of Alexander b. d. The 1873 "History of Yates Co., NY" relates that Watson Disbrow "was accidently drowned at Big Stream in sheep washing. He had one posthumous child, a daughter, who married Oliver Hurd, District Attorney of Schuyler Co." Big Stream runs through Barrington and Starkey in Yates Co. and empties into Seneca Lake. I believe Watson's drowning occurred before 1850 because we don't find him listed in the 1850 census, and because his only daughter, Cynthia, who was born after his death, was married in 1865, indicating she was probably born before 1850. In Rochester he established a business of making berry boxes. The 1877 "History of Monroe Co., NY" states: "I. S. DISBROW, Box Manufactory - This business was established in 1873 by I. S. Disbrow and was continued by him until April 1, 1875, when M. H. Disbrow became a partner, but no change was made in the original firm name. They employ eleven people. I. S.
