DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS & MERCY (HOLBRIDGE) DISBROW, PART ONE © 1992 by Michael S. Disbrow ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- Page 243 (3-2-5-3) STEWART NATHAN-6 DISBROW, son of Israel-5 & Phebe (Jayne) b. c1819 NY d. 2 Dec. 1911 poss. Paxton, Keith Co., NE m. 11 Mar. 1841 Watertown, Washington Co., OH TRUBY CEMANTHA TRYON b. c1820 OH d. 15 Apr. 1895 Paxton, Keith Co., NE After their marriage Stewart and Truby lived in or near Marietta, OH, until between 1847 and '49 they moved to Ingham Co., MI. They were listed there in the 1850 census of Alaiedon Twp: Stewart Disbrow, age 30, real estate valued at $200, no occupation listed. Living in his household were Truby C. 30, John B. 8, Reuil L. 3, and Stewart's mother Phebe 50, and his brother Israel 18. The son Isaac A. had died the previous September of dysentery at the age of 5 and was listed in the mortality schedule. I do not have any more records of this family until 1890 when they were residing in Paxton, NE. It's possible they moved back to Ohio for a time, and then at some point moved out to Nebraska. They were at Paxton at least by 1888 if not sooner. The son John F. Disbrow enlisted in Co. H, 17 OH Infantry on 23 Sep. 1861 at McConnelsville, OH at age 19. He was killed in the battle of Hoover's Gap, Tennessee on 25 or 26 June 1863. On 25 July 1890 Truby C. Disbrow, mother of John F., applied for a dependent mother's pension on John's service. She was 70 years old, a resident of Paxton, NE. After her death in 1895 Stewart made application for a father's pension, dated 3 Aug. 1895, he was 76 and resided at Paxton, NE. He submitted evidence of his marriage to "Semantha T. Tryon". The affidavit of two neighbors, Willis Record and John Cooper, dated 24 Aug. 1895, state that they had both farmed within 5 miles of Stewart Disbrow for the past 7 years, and that "he appears weak, feeble and infirm, his gait is slow and feeble, hair white, figure stooping, blind in right eye, left eye appears dim, habitually walks with cane which he leans heavily upon ..." A statement of his property as of 10 Feb. 1896 includes 2 horses, 2 cows and a section of "high table land not susceptible of being irrigated and no crops have been raised thereon for the last 5 years on account of the extreme drought ..." Stewart's grandson, Ira Reuel Disbrow, wrote in 1979 that his grandfather was a cabinet and coffin maker, and a farmer.
