Wooster cem., Danbury Because of his residence in Fairfield Co., CT, I believe this Israel was probably a descendant of Thomas & Mercy Disbrow, but I have no clues as to who his parents were. He was listed in the censuses of Danbury from 1800 through 1850. Jerusha Disbrow was buried in the same cemetery as Israel, but the data I have doesn't indicate if they were buried in the same lot. Since she was about the same age, I am assuming she was Isreal's wife. He should not be confused with (3-2-5) Israel Disbrow, son of Nathan & Eunice (Rowland), who was born in the same time period. The children, assumed because of their appearance in Danbury records, may not be complete. Jacob was a farmer, listed in the censuses of 1820 and 1830 in Kent, Putnam Co., NY, and 1840 through 1860 in Colchester, Delaware Co., NY. He was drafted 18 Aug. 1814 at Carmel, Putnam Co., NY, into Capt. David Knapp's co., Col. Belknapp's regt. of NY militia to serve in the War of 1812. He was discharged with his regt. 2 Dec. 1814 at Harlem Hts., NY, and received $28 for his service. In 1851 he applied for and received a warrant for 40 acres of bounty land, and in 1855 he got another warrant for 120 acres. He applied for a pension 14 Sep. 1875, age 79, a resident of Rockland, Sullivan Co., NY, and was granted a pension of $8 per month. No further record. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- Page 306 (U6) JACOB DISBROW, cont'd Because of his early residence in Kent, Putnam Co., NY, I believe this Jacob was related to the family of (3) Nathan Disbrow Sr., who lived in that area from before the time of the Revolution. He was likely a grandson of that Nathan, but from which son I can't prove. A likely candidate for his father was (3-15) David Disbrow, whose family I have no record of. David was in Putnam Co. in 1790, and in Delaware Co. from 1800 to 1820. The 1810 census of Roxbury, Delaware Co., does show a male child of the correct age for Jacob (10-15) in David's household. Perhaps he was named for (his uncle?) (3-11) Jacob Disbrow who died in 1782. Children: +(U6-1) Julia Ann b. 2 July 1819 Greene Co., NY (U6-2) George b. c1823 NY [In the 1860 census an Ann E. MEHITABLE HIGBY, dau. of Samuel Galpin & Lucy Ann (Mallett) b. c1825 CT d. 9 Jan. 1853 (age 27), bur. w/James His gravestone reads "Capt. James P. Disbrow." I have no other data on him and no exceptionally good reason to believe that he was a descendant of Thomas Disbrow except for his presence in Connecticut at this early time. Perhaps the death notices of his wife, which appeared in the "New Haven Palladium" of 12 Jan. 1853 and in the "Hartford Times" of 22 Jan. 1853 [per Charles Hale Collection - an index], might furnish a clue as to James's identity. Mehitable Disbrow was living in her parents' household in Milford in 1850, with the son James. Both were mentioned in Samuel G. Higby's will. Child: (U7-1) James Galpin b. c1848 poss. It's possible he was a son of (2-7-3) Joseph & Anna (Hodge) Disbrow of New Fairfield, and a brother of (2-7-3-1) Meeker Disbrow of Brookfield. The principal reason for suspecting this is that both he and Meeker named sons David Burr Disbrow. The other Disbrow living in Easton in 1850 was (2-10-9) Joseph Disbrow. It is extremely unlikely he and John A. were brothers. Children: +(U8-1) David Burr b.
