>From - Mike Disbrow, listowner Subject - update on progress of the Disbrow Civil War soldier files project The project I am working on now is to scan and burn to CD the Civil War military and/or pension files for soldiers by the name of Disbro, Disbrow, Disborough, etc. With one exception these are the files stored at the National Archives in Washington, DC (that one exception is the file of Reuel L. Disbro, which was obtained from the Veteran's Administration). Over the years my distant cousin, the late Cash Disbrow, and I, collected these files by ordering copies from the NARA one or two at a time. We were never able to get all of the available files, as time and cost were two big factors against us, but we did manage to obtain quite a few. (You can still order the files from NARA, but the last I checked the cost was about $10 per file, and you have to wait several weeks to get them.) I have been scanning the files as time permits and making good progress. At present I have scanned 40 out of the 51 files, and when finished I will have scanned nearly 1,000 individual pages. I was hoping that some of you subscribers to this mailing list might be able to help by supplying copies of Disbrow Civil War soldier files that are missing from my collection. So far only one person has volunteered to help by sending scans of three files that she has in her possession. Those will be a nice addition, but I'm hoping for even more. Below is the list of all (51) of the Disbrow soldier files I have that will be included in this project. If you have files for any Disbrow Civil War soldier not on this list, would you please help us by contributing copies? Please contact me if you can help out this way. I am offering to give one free copy of the final CD to anyone who contributes at least one file to the project. If there is space allowing on the CD I think it would also be nice to include some extra material such as photos of your Civil War ancestor(s), or any such material that would be related to their Civil War experience (diaries, letters, etc.). The photos would not have to be taken during the war, but at any time in the soldier's life either before or after. I have two different photos of my own great-grandfather, Albert J. Disbrow of the 50th New York Engineers, both taken after the war, that I would include, and a few others that have been sent to me in the past, but any others would be greatly appreciated and would lend more interest to this project. Contact me with what you have and I will let you know if I could use it. For those who have asked, it doesn't look as if there will be room to include any other files except for those men by the name of Disbrow (and various spellings). I'm sorry, I wish I could include others, but this is principally a "DISBROW" project. Here are the Disbrow Civil War soldier files I have, with the state they each served from: Abram J.
