I have been chasing this man for a long, long time. I have no idea why his middle name is Disbrow. I can't find any other Disbrows in the family. So, maybe you can cast some light on this, and maybe not. Hope you can. All the following were born in NY and as far as I know, with the exception of Edwin, died there too. Records are from the Reformed Dutch Church, NYC and West Farms, then part of Westchester Cty, NY. Edwin b/30 Nov 1808 d/ ? buried? m/ Margaret Ellis about 1829 s/o Thomas Volk ch abt 1771 NY RDC m/Abigale Garritson/Abby Garrison 1789 RDC Thomas s/o Peter Volk bc1750 NYC m/Theresa Guertz RDC Edwin's wife Margaret remarried John Chase in either 1845 or 1865 (big spread) Guess it was '45 because her youngest child Elisha Volk was buried in the Chase family cem in Cortlandt, Westchester Cty two years following Margaret's death and she was buried in Cedar Hill Cem (RDC) also in Cortlandt. I was told by an ancient cousin before he died that Edwin just left Margaret with 5 young children "to starve"while he went off to the Mexican War Actually, there were 6 children, not 5, and they survived into reasonable old age and the war didn't start until 1846. (Nat'l Archives does not have him listed) At any rate, Edwin probably died in 1845 or earlier or Margaret went in for bigamy or was divorced. His middle name Disbrow is not a name one would tack on a child unless there was a connection. It's not like George or Harry. So, I really hope one of you will have a clue and share it with me. Thank you so much, Nancy Davis
I wish I could help, but I lose track of the Disbrows with my grandfather Charles Grinnell (or Gurnell) Disbrow. He was born in CT, but lived most of his life in Bedford Hills, NY.
