John Joseph DILLON was born in 1809 in Wexford, Ireland. He married Mary BYRNE, and their son, John Joseph DILLON, was born in 1865 in Wicklow, Ireland. He also had a son, Stephen, from an earlier marriage who died in the Boer War. He was a sea captain and/or a smith. Their son, John Joseph DILLON, married Annie O'CONNELL in Dublin, Ireland in 1889. One of the witnesses at the wedding was Kate DILLON; I don't know how she connects. John Joseph DILLON was an engine fitter, died in 1906. Annie O'CONNELL and the five children emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1906: 1. John Joseph married Alida LaLONDE 2. Mary Josephine married Timothy McCARTHY 3. Charles married Florence McCONOMY 4. Annie married Cyril PARROTT 5. Kathleen married Arthur SAUVE Mary Josephine DILLON and Timothy McCARTHY are my grandparents. I'm hoping to connect with descendants of the above Dillons. Any information welcome. Linda Maguire Maitland Vancouver, BC lindamaitland@telus.net

I am looking to connect my William Dillon with his proper parents and ancestors. My William was born in Ohio in 1822 and is shown with his wife Elizabeth and three sons in the Monroe County Ohio, Green Township 1850 census. It is possible that my William Dillon is the son of James Dillon who is shown with his family in the Monroe County, Perry Township 1840 census. That 1840 census show James Dillon as being between the ages of 60 and 70 and his spouse between the ages of 50 and 60. Also shown is a 15 to 20 year old male who matches my William Dillon's age bracket at that time - 1840. James Dillon is not shown in the 1850 census. Does anyone have any information on this James Dillon family? Thank you for your help. Perry Adams San Carlos, California
To Mike Poland, I am interested in the James Dillon that served in the Revolutionary War. The Dillon I am trying to trace back is Mary Dillon, born in 1763 in Augusta, Virginia and we think her father is James Dillon. The year seems about right and I wonder if you can tell me anything more about your James Dillon? Could this be the same man? He left home and went to the American West sometime around 1841. According to his nieces, he was a "range rider," a "border rider" and an "Indian fighter." The end of his nose had been shot off by an Indian arrow. They did not know whether he was a sheriff. Many years ago, I saw a letter from his father Thomas to a brother, James Dillon , of Dubois County, Indiana that referred to Matt's travels in the West. It was dated 1861. Matt Dillon died in California and is buried, I believe, in Ukiah, California. I know about this Matt Dillon but do not know what the writers of the Matt Dillon TV series based their stories on.

Her great grandfather was Mayor of New Rochelle, NY, elected in 1899. She thinks her grandfather's name was Gregory Dillon. Her father's name was Michael James Dillon, and he was a WWII hero from New Rochelle, NY. I am writing to ask if any of these names are familiar? My friend, Barbara Dillon, thinks Gregory's wife's name was Margaret Grady. That is about all we know, and we certainly would appreciate any help you can give us, or any links to the proper place to search. Best regards, Rick Wickwire
Researchers: In the 1840 Monroe County, Perry Township Census is shown a James Dillon Family. That family consisted of the following individuals. 1 male under 5 1 male age 5 to 10 2 males age 10 to 15 1 male age 15 to 20 l male age 60 to 70 (James Dillon - head of household) 1 female age 5 to 10 1 female age10 to 15 1 female age 15 to 20 1 female age 50 to 60 I am trying to identify the names of this James Dillon family members. James Dillon himself does not appear in the 1850 census, so he either moved away or passed away. I have made searches of land records without any success. So I hope someone out there can identify the names of these children and the name of the wife. Thank you for your help. Perry Adams
