Hi There ! I am researching the DICK families in CARLUKE, South Lanarkshire who were MILLERS / MILLWRIGHTS / ENGINEERS / 'BUS COMPANY Operators from 1797 'til 1940 . DAVID DICK of the High Mill was Baron Baillie of Carluke in 1815 and was a MILLER He came from CARNWATH, his mother was a BARRIE (BARRY) of Shodshill Mill. He lived at LANGSHAW, Carluke and then moved to HIGH MILL ( Scotland's last Windmill ? ) in 1800. His sons were Millers (William DICK), and ENGINEERS / MILLWRIGHTS ( James Dick ). They seem to have used the Naming Tradition since then : Family names include :- David : William : James : John : Thomas : Gavin (Guy): George Associated families include BROWNLEE (Millers and Sawmillers), FORREST (Millers and farmers), DEWAR, WHITE (Farmers), GRAHAM (Cabinet Makers) and many more. family links include USA, CANADA, SOUTH AFRICA, NEW ZEALAND. Is anyone on the List looking for any connection with these families ? The HIGH MILL is an Ancient Monument - the 'most complete [windmill] of its kind in Scotland ? Any and all information / family links appreciated. GEORGE RUSSELL, The High MIll Trust, CARLUKE, South Lanarkshire
