    3. To Lee and All, It's good to see so many people interested in the name! I'm really glad that the info I posted about DEWHURSTs in NYC helped someone. I've always felt that there was probably some relationship between the different ones - but I've not found it yet. In addition to our Richard James (nuts and bolts) in Manhattan, and Henry (plasterer) Manhattan - there's also Richard James (metal work) lived Staten Island - had a business Manhattan. Our DEWHURST family came from Blackburn. They were there for quite a while - then moved to Chorley in Lancashire. The next move was to the US - they settled in Lowell, MA for some years. At the time, the occupation was "print block cutter" I believe they carved the wooden blocks that were then used to print on the cloth. After Lowell, the family moved to NYC and were settled there by 1860. If anyone thinks they see a promising lead, please let me know. If you want to see more details, check out Jana's DEWHURST page.
