Hello everyone, It is your your hungry listowner out hunting relatives to add to the Thanksgiving prayer list (hey, I'll have a captive audience for once, might as well get in all the names!)..... but I am also adding a twist ;) cuz I love Thanksgiving! WE have 50 researchers on this list at last count.... we are small but GOOD! Time to post/repost your lines so we can all know who we are and who we are looking for...... Newbies, this let's us get to know you, oldsters, this let's us know what's new! You never know just who may be out there lurking...... Please use this SUBJECT FORMAT fro your header so we can quickly see who you have in your line: DEWHURST, William Henry b. abt. 1816, Hackney, Middlesex, London Then put whatever you want in your message... HERE COMES THE TWIST: ADD A RECIPE FROM YOUR DEWHURST LINE (or at least one you think your line would enjoy!)... let's see if we truly are what we eat as a family! WE may be on to somethign here ;] I know some of you aren't in the USA getting ready for a Thanksgiving celebration, but I am sure it won't hurt for you to join us in giving thanks for the gene pool that made us all, so humor our silly American tradition and post your DEWHURSTS anyway?!? Thanks to all of you for making my job easy! I never have to do anything much for this list, t'is a pleasure... and while I am at it, Thanks also to Terry Dewhurst for managing the DEWHURST GenConnect Boards so I didn't have to and for my cousin Nancy Petersen who I just "elected" to be my sub-listowner in case I ever get to go anywhere! I've posted his service record under biographies on the GenConnect board. So far, he doesn't connect to my NYC Dewhurst family. I think he is part of the Staten Island line. They had tinsmiths - and a business in downtown Manhattan. Terry /Glen Rock, NJ See the post at: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/dew/DewhurstBios
Hi all, I wanted to thank Terry for alerting us to what she is posting on the GenConnect Boards and for acting as the Dewhurst GC Board Admin! If you haven;t had a chance to do so, take a look at the potential of this resource that is just sitting there waiting for us all to begin using! As the weather turns, this could be agreat way to get at some "drawer cleaning".... here are all the links: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/dew/Dewhurst http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/bible_records http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/dew/DewhurstBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/deeds http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/obituaries http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/pensions http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/wills On the GenConnect Boards, anyone can post the data contained in Bible, Deed, Obituary, Pension, Will records. there are also boards for Queries and Biographies (similar to GenForum, but here, WE keep the rights to what we post, instead of giving them away to Family Tree Maker/Mattell to do with as they wish!). You can post what you have day or night, rain or shine - even in your jammies! It is as easy as sending an email.... I suspect that like me, as you have researched you have accumulated data that while not specific to your own family research is still Dewhurst documentation of importance to someone... Consider posting it to the appropriate board, would you? If you post for someone else, the favor will return to you in some way! The best thing of all is that anything which is posted on any of these boards automatically get indexed weekly by the Rootsweb Surname Helper system! Anyone researching Dewhurst will get "led" to our boards when they search the name and this will benefit us all as more and more "family members" are able to link up! This is a terrific resource - I highly encourage you to use it! Hi, I've just posted a REALLY long pension file and military service file to the GenConnect Pension board for Joseph Dewhurst. He and wife Ellen lived in Utica, and different parts of Oneida and Herkimer Counties in NY State. I'm not sure whether they connect to our Dewhurst family of NYC - but we do have a "family story" about a Utica branch.... It's posted at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/e/DEWHURST/pensions Terry / Glen Rock, NJ

Charlotte, Your Francis and Elizabeth are my great, great, great grandparents. The dates that you have on Francis match the dates I have in my records. Do you have any information on anyone prior to Francis? Also do you have any copies of birth, death, or marriage records? I would gladly pay any charges for copying and mailing them to me. I am at a loss for information on this line. My grandmother was a Dewhurst and she died when my father was young. I don't really have anyone that I am in contact with that can give me Dewhurst information. If you would like any of the information that I have accumulated or would like any information researched in Ohio, let me know. I work in Columbus and have access to both the State of Ohio archives and the genealogy library at the Ohio Historical Society. Thanks in advance for any assistance. It is always nice to meet new relatives! Hi all. I couldn't help but notice everyone speaking of the name James being common within the Dewhurst line. I also have a James in my line of Dewhurst. I have information on his father, Francis who was born in England in 1813. He died in 1887 in or around Nelsonville, OH. Francis married Elizabeth ?, also from England (b 1815, d ?). Francis and Elizabeth have two sons that I have been able to obtain information on, James (b. 7/22/1855 in Nelsonville, OH; d. 1/25/1924; m. Mary Fleming on 1/21/1877) and George. If anyone has any information on Francis, any help would be appreciated. Shawn Ingram Researching INGRAM, DEWHURST, HOEY, HUCHISON, POLING
Hi Chris, Your post intrigued me as the same naming pattern exixts in my line... I have William Henry b. abt. 1816, Hackney, Middlesex, London; naming his son > James William b. 2 Feb 1852, Finchley, Middlesex, London > James Sidney b. 27 Oct 1894, Islington, Middlesex, London.... both "James" dropped the name James and went by their middle names. In the family groups, Jms. Wm. had a brother James b. >1843 and < 1849 who must have died in infancy, making the name available to rename him that name in 1852... This James guy must have been pretty special for everyone to make a point of putting it in??? Then, Wm. Jms. named one of his children William Henry after his father and another Arthur Frederick (just noting the name Frederick common in your line...). So the Wm and Jms names include a number of people. We have been unable to get further back than our William Henry who was a London Constable... Do you make anything of the naming pattern and do you have idea who this JAMES was they all were honoring with so many repetitious renamings??? ;] Do you know anything about your James Richard's family? All ideas welcome, Jana Black Chris Dewhurst wrote: > Dewhurst, James Frederick (my father): > > B.
