    3. Hi, My roll-call will not take long as I don't know anything yet. My mother-in-law's maiden name was Chadwick, and the only thing she knows about her paternal grandparents is that her grandfather was Alfred Chadwick (said to be from Liverpool, but it now looks likelier that he was from Bolton) and that his wife's maiden name was DEWHURST. We don't know what her christian name was. What I would be grateful for is if anyone knows a DEWHURST who married an Alfred CHADWICK around the early 1880's (Alf Junior was born in 1887 and he had an older brother) could they please let me know, as I am beginning to think this branch of the family was carved out of stone. 1. [DEWHURST] Wm. Henry Dewhurst & Mary Pearson
    2. Jana Black
    3. William Henry Dewhurst was b. abt. 1816 Hackney, Middlesex, England and m. Mary Pearson (b. abt. 1821) 10 Dec 1840 Old Church, St.Pancras, Middlesex, London, England. Their known children were: Caroline Jane, Mary Elizabeth, Madeline, & James William, but supposedly, there were 8-9 children total. I descend from James William who changed his name to William James Dewhurst. He m. Ellen Elizabeth Reeves 25 Dec 1874 St. John the Baptist, Shoreditch, Middlesex, London, England. Their children were: Nelle Maude Louise, William Henry, Mabel Caroline, Arthur Frederick, Madeline E., Edith Emily, Ethel Leah & (my grandfather) James Sidney. The family supposedly came from Austria to France to Hull, Yorkshire, England to London; but thus far we cannot prove it. From London, they went to Canada then to the USA ending up in the San Francisco Bay Area. When they left London, after losing both of his older boys in the Boer War, William James Dewhurst assumed the name William James McPherson (he was the only son of Mary Pearson, thus a McPherson...) and my grandfather took the name Sidney James McPherson to stay out of further military drafts and protect the "family line" at a time when sole surviving son exclusions had not yet been created in the UK. My father and his brothers were born as McPhersons, tho the name was not legally changed until much later.... we have a bit of a family identity crisis, you might say ;) My goal is to connect William Henry to his birth family (perhaps in Yorkshire?) and to see if I can find traces of any other children for William and Mary. 3. Hello all and welcome Richard! We have been quiet these summer months and I hope it means we are either enjoying the out of doors or researching bigtime ;) Thought I would use Richard's post to let him and all our other new subscribers know of our "family progress" this year (there are about 70 researchers on this list). As "oldsters" on the list know, I offered at the beginning of the year to post DEWHURST family group sheets for all listmembers on my website so we could all have the chance to "look over each other's shoulders" for connections in our research. This has been *very* successful and you can see the results here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmbhome/1dewhurst.html In fact, so many of you provided data that I had to split up the chart alphabetically, so scroll a bit down the page to the alpha table knowing it is organized alphabetically by FIRST name. I just received another family group sheet yesterday from June Phoebe Erskine Booth for the family of John Dewhirst in Drighlington, Yorkshire, England. As is true for many of us, June's information is good where she has it but sparse, like many of us. Take a look and let her know if you see anything "familiar!" Here is the link: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmbhome/johndewhirst.html If you are new and haven't "surfed" our group sheets, it is a good place to begin! The offer still stands, so let me know if you want your family groups posted - you can either send me the data in text email format or you can send an attachment in Word or a GedCom, I am not picky.... Good luck to you all - let me know if any of you come across my William Henry around 1816 in Hackney, Middlesex or even anywhere else??? Cheers!
