I wonder if anyone can help me with a query I have. First, a little context. I am researching the names appearing on our local (Stoke Climsland, Cornwall) WW1 Memorial and am interested in the person who carved the wooden commemorative plaque to those killed. The only information I can glean is that he was James or John Northcott and he was an ecclesiastical wood carver from Ashwater in Devon. I know that he carved various items for several churches around this area (Holsworthy, Horrabridge) and I'm wondering whether anyone knows anything that might fill out his biograqphy. I can access his details via the various censuses but what I'm trying to do is to find out more about the man and his work. I am writing a book/booklet about the men and the memorial and I'm aiming for this to be more than a litany of dates - I hope! In anticipation - but not holding my breath! Derrick Parsons
