    3. I think you'll find West Teignmouth is the parish of St James, the area of the town close to the river. Shaldon is a separate parish on the other side of the Teign. 3. Hello Liz, It shows just how much one needs to check out verbal information. It was years ago that I was told that Shaldon had been known as West Teignmouth. At the time I thought it strange as the Teignmouth side of the river was where the ships were built. However as I have often spoken about the DUDER connection and the Newfoundland fishing being very important to the town, no one has corrected me until now. For many years I have been involved in local and family history groups Etc., and have given talks relating to this subject in and around Newton Abbot and Teignmouth. If you are correct I can only say, one lives and learns, even in old age! Regards, Dennis Bramble.
