Hi: I have been assuming that the East Alvington in the thread "Agnes LANGMEAD of East Alvington in the Countie of Devon1642" is in fact a reference to the parish East Allington. Now I wonder whether it is in fact the hamlet "Allington or Alvington, East, a hamlet in Chivelstone parish, Devonshire, 5 1/2 miles SE of Kingsbridge" - (Transcribed from The Comprehensive Gazetteer of England and Wales, 1894-5 - see http://ukga.org/england/Devon/towns/EastAlvington.html) Cheers Brian Randell On 30 Dec 2013, at 22:24, B. Brian, The National Archives have transcribed the place as "East Alwington". The probate district was Wooton. Perhaps there are more clues in the will. Hi Brian The PR's for Chivelstone have Allington mentioned a lot as either South Allington or Allington but no East Allington [ in the 10 yrs that I checked]. The page in Chivelstone for the years that cover 1642 burials is almost unreadable so they are no help.? But I did find her in East Allington buried as:-- Mrs Agnes LANGMEAD, widdow, was buried March 10th 1642 Seems a long time since her death to the Probate date in November, generally Probate takes no longer than 4-6 weeks in those days, sometimes even sooner.
