    3. <<snipped>> Ancestry database entitled Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900 -under the listing of Somerset Volunteers: Trumpeters, Drummers & Privates. ... He's with 23rd Foot Soldiers, 2nd Battalion. Age 17. Military date in 2nd April 1813. ... <<snipped>> Just as an aside, the title of this collection, "Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service", is misleading - on a short look from me. So far as I have seen, the images come from British Army documents at Kew and it appears that whoever did the filming was fairly liberal in their definition of what "Canada" meant. In the 2 regiments I have checked through, both had a Canadian connection. The 1st Battalion of the 23rd, for instance, spent 1838-48 there. The 2nd Battalion was in Canada in the 1860s - in 1813 its last foreign location was Walcheren Island in the Netherlands. The other regiment I checked had a similar story - earlier battalions in Canada years before the data in the Collection. So you can get documents that go nowhere near Canada, simply because another battalion in the same regiment went there at another time. So don't ignore this collection if you have UK soldiers - and note, it's on Ancestry as a *Canadian* collection! Adrian
