    3. Without wishing to be a wet blanket may I point out that there are so many Hamlyn & variants that at one time, years ago, there was a One Name Study devoted to the name. Unfortunately the person running it rarely replied to snail or other mail & I would think is now probably long deceased. (I am 81 myself). My own interest is HAMBLY of Plymouth ( my mother) and I had a dickens of a job trying to sort them out when they were recorded as: Hambly, Hambley, Hamly, Hamley, Hamlin, Hamlyn Hamblin, Hambling etc. I suspect there are still relatives out there in the Plymouth area I don't know about. There are still Hamlyns on & about South Dartmoor in the Ashburton/Widecombe area, where I once lived, some of whom I knew.  I very much doubt they are connected with those in other farther areas of Devon. The Plymouth Hamblys possibly derive from those of the same name over the Tamar in the Rame Peninsula, as in the well known coach firm, but, thanks to the blitz, any early records from  Plymouth St Andrews or Plymouth Charles (where my lot lived) are lost so no hope of connecting way back.Stephen Treseder Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Wed, 12 Dec 2018 at 10:03, devon-request@rootsweb.com<devon-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: Send DEVON mailing list submissions to devon@rootsweb.com To subscribe via email send a message with subject subscribe and body subscribe to devon-request@rootsweb.com To unsubscribe via email send a message with subject unsubscribe and body unsubscribe to devon-request@rootsweb.com You can reach the person managing the list at devon-owner@rootsweb.com When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of DEVON digest..."
