Hi Bev , in the 1939 register , there is a Eustace L Came , b 9 Dec 1892 , farm tractor driver . He is living with the Sobys at Shropham Barton , Wm Herbert and Maud M , and one other , redacted . Totnes district .
Hi Elizabeth Yes, I had that. Eustace and Violet must have parted after 1930. I have yet to find her in 1939. I know that a lot of wives and families were sent away, but there seems to be an awful lot missing that should be there. Bev, If nobody has updated the 1939 Register that people have died then their names remain blacked out so Violet is probably the redacted name that Elizabeth mentioned. I couldn't find my mother and three of her siblings on the Register but there are four blacked out names in the household with my grandmother. It is definitely the correct household, the only child that is shown has been updated with her married name and my grandparents were living in the same house when I was a child. It was very frustrating trying to locate the family as every search failed and, wouldn't you know it, I searched for the only visible sister last. My grandfather was working away from home and not in the household and my grandmother didn't help by using her middle name. I have no idea how the death information reached the Register, the only visible sister died qute a long time after several of the hidden names. If you know a person has died, and you have a copy of the death certificate, you can request that the person's entry be opened. A lady in our family had remarried late in life, and her death was not matched to her entry in the 1939 Register (her first married surname had been recorded). A cousin (the lady's son) provided a copy of her death certificate and her record was opened.
