    3. CROWD SOURCING As I understand CROWD SOURCING, it is putting out some information or a problem and having others jump in and help. You never know where the answer may come from. I do think that people have been using this by posting their problem and it is wonderful to see so many of our Devon listers jump in to help out. Many minds have different ideas and suggestions. For more than ten years, I struggled with my 3x great grandmother Ann ROBERTS who married Henry HORSWILL in 1822 in Plymouth. The 1851 & 1861 census records show her born either in London or Surrey. How on earth do you find a person with that name in such a big place? I hired several researchers but with no success. They said that a girl would not come to Devon on her own so must be with family so we searched with no luck. We found some births for Ann but there was no way to prove anything so it was dropped. Then on the Devon list in October, 2013, Robert Webb posted a query for Abraham ROBERTS' burial in Plymouth. Deborah O'Brien jumped in with a reply. Next Rob posted a query regarding Henry Grant HORSWILL and Ann ROBERTS who married at Plymouth. Several weeks later, I contact Rob and was delighted to find that he had information on my Ann ROBERTS. His connection was through Ann's brother Lazarus ROBERTS. Now with a wonderful name like that, and him being in the Royal Navy, Rob had found lots of information. I went to his website https://sites.google.com/site/lazarusrobertshistory/home and was so impressed with the amazing job that he has done on tracking down the family and sourcing things out. This one connection gave me four more generations going back on a line that I thought was stuck forever! So, as Bev Edmonds says, start posting some of your problems and see if the experts on this list can help out. Gail Pullyblank Vancouver Canada Searching for PULLEYBLANK, SHUTE, MOGRIDGE, COKER in the South Hams ======================== -----Original Message----- From: devon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:devon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of B. Edmonds Sent: January-25-14 9:10 PM To: DEVON@rootsweb.com; eng-dev-southhams@rootsweb.com Subject: [DEV] Thomas ROGERS of Ipplepen and Penelope COD This also gives me the opportunity to ask: Been plucking up the courage to say something : ) How many people on this List? How many post their brick walls? Whether it be 1600 or 1800 or 1900? How many sit on the fence and never post hoping something will drop in their lap for nothing? [that's cheeky: )] Come on folks, start getting out there with your names? My very good Genie friend tell me that the buzz word is " crowd sourcing " . What a funny term. Surely someone knows something, even if you do not get a reply, the name should be in the subject box for someone to pick up on in years to come. There's been some very good research done for some of the people who have posted of late by very experienced people over the past few days. Seeeeeeeeeeeending before I change my mind :) Bev ------------------------------------------ The DEVON-L mailing list is co-sponsored by GENUKI/Devon ( http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/ ) and the Devon FHS (http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/ ) List archive for Devon can be found at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/DEVON/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to DEVON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
