Hi Bev In the 1851 census for Totnes (address - "Behind the Walls") I have found the following: Mary Harris Head Unm 38 Dressmaker Totnes Elizabeth Harris Dau Unm 13 Scholar Totnes Harriett Harris Dau Unm 10 Scholar Totnes Emily Harris Dau Unm 7 Scholar Totnes Peter Harris Son Unm 5 Scholar Totnes William Harris Son Unm 1 Totnes And in 1841 in Fore Street: Mary Doble Harris 25 Yes In the same household are the following: William Tucker Harris 25 Painter Yes Mary E D Harris 3 Yes Harriet J Harris 4 months Yes William may have been Mary's husband who died before the 1851 census, or maybe her brother? And in the 1861 census, in South Street, Totnes: May D Harris Head Wid 48 Dressmaker Totnes Emily Gillard Harris Dau Unm 17 Needlewoman Totnes William T Harris Son Unm 11 School boy Totnes A search for Peter finds him living with his grandparents, Peter and Mary Ann Gillard (presumably Mary's mother and father), in Fore Street, Totnes. He is age 14 and a cordwainer's apprentice. In my own tree I have an Ann Harris b Totnes 1813 who married my ancestor, Robert Mountain in 1838 and settled in Essex. Ann may have been William Tucker Harris's sister. Hope this helps a little. Lizzie On Thu, Jan 2, 2014 at 6:19 AM, B.
