    2. Try Findmypast. They show the names to be found on each page of the registry so you can check potential partners Paul ________________________________ From: "wendy@inskeep.co.nz" <wendy@inskeep.co.nz> To: DEVON@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, 4 February 2014, 19:24 Subject: [DEV] A puzzle On Free BMD for June quarter 1839 in Exeter there are four females named and only three males Is anyone able to provide another name to solve this puzzle? 3. Hi Wendy, It's not unusual as Tom Jones once sang! Is Maria on the page you have found? You could view the images on Free BMD and check the folio and page No. You can then enter these into FBMD search and see what comes up. 3. Hello One suggestion is that perhaps there are two entries for the same woman i.e. one under her maiden name and one under her previous husband's name (thus she would be a widow); or perhaps under an a common alias (if perhaps she used a maiden name and the name of a step father interchangeably). I am sure there are other possibilities as well :) Sincerely Thelma On Free BMD for June quarter 1839 in Exeter there are four females named and only three males Is anyone able to provide another name to solve this puzzle?

    3. Okay, Maria is there. Next step, ask for all Exeter 2Q marriages and look for a page that has an extra male or a page No. e.g. 18(_). A process of elimination I'm afraid, but it can be done. 3. Good morning In the 1841 census there is a Maria Williams living with John Williams (who was on the Free BMD marriages at the same time) in St Pancras Parish, Exeter. She is 35 he is 30. Could this be your Maria? Jane Gould -----Original Message----- From: A & B Currie Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2014 8:15 PM To: devon@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DEV] A puzzle Okay, Maria is there. 3. Dear Wendy It is possible that the groom for one of the marriages has been left off the index which has been transcribed. I found one of my ancestors had married and when I went to FreeBMD I could not find the groom. I looked at the original records from which FreeBMD is transcribed (on its website - it took a bit of searching) and found that there was not an entry for him in the original index. That was an Exeter Marriage! I took the chance that it was the correct marriage and sent to the GRO for the certificate. Happily, it turned out to be him. If you have the page, volume and number for your Maria Berry you might like to try the trace on FreeBMD. Hope this helps Ray Lewis Hazelmere Western Australia On 5/02/2014 3:24 AM, wendy@inskeep.co.nz wrote: > On Free BMD for June quarter 1839 in Exeter <snipped>
