    3. Patti, I think it was I who began this thread on Coletown in Tavistock parish. I was interested in it because John SLEEMAN and Henry SLEEMAN (perhaps son and father, and probably related to the ROCKEY family of Tavistock that I am tracing) became tenants of Coletown, Great Artiscombe, and Artiscombe in 1807, while Thomas ROCKEY, Jr. became a tenant at nearby Hele in the same year. SLEEMANs were there until at least 1825. Before the SLEEMANs, Coletown, Great Artiscombe, and Artiscombe were held by William CRABB, Sr., from 1785-1806. Before 1785 it was held by George CROSS. This information is from the Tavistock Land Tax Assessments, 1780-1832, held at the Devon Record Office (Family History Library Microfilm 1471155, Item 12). Since these records begin in 1780, I cannot shed any light whatsoever as to who occupied the land earlier in the 18th century.
