I wish to offer a compliment and make a request. I am new to the Devon list, but I have been (and still am) participating in a dozen other lists in various geographies and interests for many years. DEVON is probably the most active list I have been on, having a wonderful variety of topics and participation - an example for others! My request is for brevity. Not brevity in the responses you make - those are great and I appreciate ALL the detail you make the effort to provide. I seek brevity in the amount of material that is returned to the list when you reply to a posting. I know that not all email programs are the same, and some may make it harder to do this than others, but please consider whether the stuff you are returning to the list is ALL necessary for the next reader to get the meaning from your response. There are many responses of only a few lines with several PAGES of forwarded and re-forwarded material following them. Aside from the time that adds to reading and processing a Digest, please also consider the impact on the list Archives and anyone searching in those Archives. Even a very focused and specific search may well return dozens of hits that appear different at the start, but are 90% identical because they are all re-forwarding all the previous parts of the same conversation. So - my request is for selective use of the delete key before hitting Send. I hope you agree. Thank you. Regards - Glen C.
