I am hoping some kind person might be able to help me with this person. Martin (which is a very unusual name for the Border family) was born I think around 1780 but I do not know where or who to. He married Sarah Bugg 10th March 1800 in Alfreton Derbyshire and had three children Elizabeth Bap 26 8 1800 Alfreton ( I don't know any more) Hannah Bap 13 3 1803 Selston Notts (I don't know anymore) and Thomas Bap 15 9 1805 Selston Notts - I have extensive records on his descendants. My pet theory is that Martin was a miner possibly moving from the West Country towards the North East Collieries. I have lots of Borders in Devon (many of them with Tin Mining connections) and certainly Thomas and his descendants settled around Murton Colliery Co Durham. Any pointers, ideas or help with Martin or even Sarah or their daughters would be most gratefully received. Robin Border Border ONS Goons member 4723 DEV FHS 12995
Robin, I found this on FreeReg Search Record Details County Northumberland Place Longbenton Church St Bartholomew Bt BaptismDate 13 Feb 1791 Forename Martin Sex M FatherForename Martin MotherForename Elizabeth FatherSurname BURDUR MotherSurname Abode Walker Father Occupation Notes FileNumber 31774 Is it possible Martin came from the North East and that Sarah was a second, possibly bigamous marriage. This also raises the possibility that Martin was Scottish.
