I am aware that the website Find My Past (FMP) provides an ongoing listing of year-spans re their parish register offerings. But does anyone on this list know what the status is in imaging the Plymouth Records Collection? Surely I'm not the only one who thrills at the sight of my ancestors handwriting, marriage witness names etc , let alone just having the original - so short of getting in contact with who-knows at the website itself (and am I right that it's out of the record office's hands?) perhaps someone knowledgeable here knows or can tell us who does. cheers, pamela in Bermuda
Hi Pamela I was made aware at the North Devon Record Office that the Parish Registers were all being filmed. This is a Devon wide exercise apparently and I am told (in North Devon at least) it is nearing completion. Then at the DFHS AGM I asked the Heritage Service rep what the news was and she was only able to say it would be ready when it was ready and not to hold my breath. I think the idea is to digitise all the images and "replace" the horrible ones done on the IGI years ago that we all know to be unreadable in many cases, but I guess we have to hold ourselves with patience!
