Does anyone know what this property might now be known as, and where it might be? It is mentioned in a will of 1590.... Marlene Researching Snell, Hooper, Paddon, Drake, Greenslade, Tanner and so on ad infinitum
Hi All and complements of the Season I have an interest in the Mogridge family of East and West Ogwell. John MOGRIDGE married Elizabeth PARKER at West Ogwell in 1755. I know of two children John 1756-1849 mar Susannah WOOTTON in 1780 at East Ogwell and Stephen chr 1764 West Ogwell and may have died c 1844. He married Mary LINSCOTT in 1786 at East Ogwell. This couple are my ancestors. They had at least 4 daughters: Mary 1786, Susannah 1788, Elizabeth died 1792 and Sarah b 1792-1831. Sarah married Thomas SHAPLEY (1789-1851) in 1816 at West Ogwell. Sarah and Thomas are my ancestors. Any connections or extra information would be most welcome. Cheers Chris Farrington Auckland New Zealand
Hi Chris, Have you see the Devon Heritage Website http://www.devonheritage.org/FrameMain_Places.htm they have burial transcriptions for East Ogwell (1837-1906) and West Ogwell (1837-1917), which shows quite a few MOGRIDGE's buried in both East and West Ogwell, most are buried in East Ogwell. I actually live in East Ogwell my self so have a lot of interest in anything to do with Ogwell. Hi Marlene Could it be the place shown on current maps as Mildon's Leigh? http://www.streetmap.co.uk/idld.srf?X=272430&Y=112235&A=Y&Z=115&lm=1 I can't see any other current properties with a similar name - you can look through the list on the Postcode website: http://www.royalmail.com/postcode-finder just put Chawleigh in the 'Town' field.
