    3. Hi, Jane, I am very familiar with what you likely have in front of you. Here is the typical form for the commencement of the probate grant: Probatum fuit huiusmodi testamentum apud (place where granted) coram venerabile viro (Name of Judge), artium magistro,... Translating to: Probate made of this Will at (place) before the Worshipful man (name), Master of Arts,.... So the third word that you are looking at is probably something like ‘huius’ is huiusmodi and the ‘magro’ is magistro. All great deal of abbreviation of words was used in the written Latin texts. These abbreviations can be the difference between interpreting a word correctly or incorrectly. I hope this helps. 3. Hello Susan Yes.. that’s pretty much what I have.. ‘huiusmodi’ has been abbreviated to ‘huixox’ (can’t read the letters I’ve called x but I guessed it was as you said. There is no ‘venerable vino atrium’ .. just ‘magro Willi[umo]’ .. that was what threw me.. so I’m very pleased that you have confirmed that for me as Magistrate and name of Judge. As you say, the abbreviations are the difference and make deciphering words difficult when added to the difficulty of deciding on the individual letters. The rest of the clause is pretty much indecipherable for me but I think it is all standard so I am not going to get too fussy about it at the moment. I think it is one to revisit! Thanks again for your help. Regards Jane > On 13 Oct 2018, at 19:25, Susan <zandara@cogeco.ca> wrote: > > Hi, Jane, > > I am very familiar with what you likely have in front of you.
