The previous thread re Devon Wills ... has got me thinking. There is a family history (surname Caunter) publication from 1930 held at DA in which extracts of Caunter Wills are transcribed, one as early as 1548. I believe, from remarks made by the author, that he has seen the originals, some held at the Exeter Registry. Presumably those went up in flames. I’ve used that book (with caution) to construct part of my Caunter tree and it has been extremely useful. There must be similar sources to be found for other families. But I wondered if there was ever any idea to reference such material in the DWP? Perhaps not if the original testamentary document source is not adequately cited? The reason I ask is because not all Wills referred to in the Caunter book are to be found in the Index, though I have so far only checked for a few. Jane
