They were mostly mariners. Glad to make contact with anyone who thinks they may be related. Does anyone with HAMLING, HAMBLIN, HAMLYN, etc in their family have a Thomas HAMLING living in Knowle, Braunton in the 1930's in their family tree? Born 1876 Hull, Yorkshire Died 1941, Braunton Father - probably John (Bowden?) HAMLING born 1844 Brixham Mother - Rose born 1851, Paddington, London Brothers: John Edward 1870-1834 Georgeham, Christopher Bowden 1872, Frederick Emmet 1880. Married 1890, Devonport Florence Daisy BASTIN,  Born 1877 Honiton, but living  in Exmouth on 1891 census until marriage. I think she died in Sussex in 1961. 4 daughters, Rose Marion, married STANNEY - 4 children Lilian, married Harold? BEVERAGE Freda, married Frederick J LITTLEJOHNS Florence Daisy, married Henry L HOOPER According to his obituary in the North Devon Journal he was in the Royal Navy, Coastguard, British Legion, and Hearts of Oak Friendly Society. Though he was born in Yorkshire I think his family were from Devon. According to my family stories he was away on long voyages but spent time between voyages in Exmouth somewhere between 1885-1900 which is where he met my grandmother and his wife Florence Daisy.
