I agree but in Anthony's case he does seem to have been there until 1773 as he has actually signed each page of the Register book along with the Church Warden of the time. At this time it was most common to retain livings until death, but often curates were paid to do the work, . It's struck me before as a shame that our churches so often have lists of vicars / rectors, including those who held plural livings or were otherwise absent, and not the curates they paid (often a pittance) to do the work, who should really be the ones acknowledged. (The trouble is I think survival of records about who was present and even more about who the curates were who ministered in a parish are very patchy) See for instance the 1779 visitation replies for Thornbury - http://foda.org.uk/visitations/1779/Chanter232B/Thornbury.htm Teresa On 24/02/2017 08:00, [email protected] wrote: > From:[email protected] > Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2017 10:29 AM To:[email protected] > Subject: Re: [DEV] [STRAY] Anne w/o Richard FRENCHAM of Thornbury > > He was the Rector of St Peter's Church, Thornbury near Holsworthy in > Devon but I have his name as Frinsham but have not checked any > original documentation.
