Terry, Apologies I used the example of Photoshop to emphasis the that the quality of the images compared to the old LDS microfilms is much improved. I should have used the term "Image Enhancement" which is both built in to high quality cameras and the accompanying software (and imaging microfilm readers). Usually this software adjusts contrast and brightness and can remove "stains". Personally I use a cut down version of Photoshop after a visit to an archive. They have not been processed in any way but are the result of using high quality cameras and equipment. They have all been "photoshopped" to give a much higher quality than the microfilms. The contents vary over time and place. Burials are usually name and date but occasionally include age, Wid(ow) of, inf(ant) or son/daughter of (children under 12). I had a quick look at Buckfastleigh and Harberton but did not see entries of this type. > > Familysearch has fairly comprehensive indexes to Devon but ultimately you need access to the images. > > Cheers > > Paul > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: DEVON [mailto:[email protected]] > On Behalf Of Len Heyward > Sent: 09 February 2017 08:08 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [DEV] Thomas NOSWORTHY of Harberton > > Hello Paul; > > Many thanks for your response to my enquiry. > > I was aware of the first Thomas (bp 1742 at Buckfastleigh) in your message, but not the second bp 1746. I usually only use the term when perhaps, as a result of knowing a validated death or burial record from a certificate or headstone, the age at death is also included and an approximate birth year can be determined. This of course assumes the details provided in the death certificate or on a headstone are correct, and we all know this can be an incorrect assumption! > > Will contact the Buckfastleigh OPC. > > Thank you once again. > > Len Heyward > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: DEVON [mailto:[email protected]] On > Behalf Of Paul Hockie > Sent: 9 February, 2017 7:51 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [DEV] Thomas NOSWORTHY of Harberton > > Len, > > I am always suspicious when I see "about" without knowing where the underlying information came from. There is a Sarah buried 1779 and Thomas b 1748 is the only child of a Thomas and Sarah. There is a John and Mary Norsworthy producing children in the 1760s. I suspect the Thomas buried 1748 may be the father, leaving Sarah a widow looking after Thomas the son. > > I noticed that Thomas was a husbandman when he married in 1768, so I am guessing the family were not wealthy.
