Carolyne, I have found that most archives are vague about their offsite ordering services and payment. I usually email and ask the question. If you can give the specific reference and request an image, it is usually a reasonable charge. Staff levels are usually too low to offer a research and they suggest using a professional. I have Knight / Night families in Hatherleigh and Black Torrington, North Devon. I live in Sydney, Australia and have just found abstracts of wills left by two members of this family in Black Torrington, listed in the Devon Wills Project and held at the Devon Heritage Centre. I've had a look at their website and am no wiser as to whether I can order copies of these transcripts? Or, maybe, big ask, long shot, a kind subscriber to this List who lives close by and/or regularly visits the Centre for research purposes, might be able to get copies for me? Happy to pay all costs. Perhaps easier if I can send details off list?
