Devon Heritage Centre have this information about online availabiity with an explanation of which Parish Registers are now on FMP: https://media.wix.com/ugd/f60e4e_ec56f8fdef1a4eafbc1e0c2af6441eb8.pdf Joy ----Original message---- >From : [email protected] Date : 28/09/2017 - 20:44 (GMTST) To : [email protected] Subject : [DEV] Demonstrating a move from Bishops Nympton to Barnstaple My presumed 4G-GF is Henry MARLEY (b abt 1781 Barnstaple - d1853 Bristol). It would seem very likely that he is the Henry Marley bap 10 Feb 1782 at Barnstaple to Hugh & Jane Marl(e)y. There is then a distinct likelihood, I believe, that Hugh is bap 1 Jan 1749 at Bishops Nympton. But how can I demonstrate that (a) there are no other *plausible* High Marleys around and (b) the Hugh from Bishops Nympton didn't go off elsewhere? Disregarding emigration to far flung parts and alien abduction, obviously. If all the Devon baptisms were on FMP, then it would be OK, I could just work from FMP - but they aren't. When I last looked there seemed several issues: 1. Barnstaple itself isn't in FMP - but that's OK, I have a PDF of the Thomas Wainwright transcript of the Barnstaple registers up to 1812. 2. Some of the FMP PRs are "transcripts" - anyone know if this poses any serious problems? Are the transcripts just indexes, missing out data, for instance? 3. When I last looked there were several parishes missing altogether from FMP up in that north part around Barnstaple - however, I now see that most of the missing ones are on the Devon FHS site in the members area. So that looks like my present to myself before long. I think there may be 1 or 2 others missing as well but FamilySearch seemed to include at least 1 as an index. Given all this, what's the best method of searching in people's experience? Do FMP first, work out what's missing in the northern parts of Devon by comparing the FMP and "Devon" RO PR lists, then search for each missing parish? (I'm assuming that there isn't a nice simple list of parishes and where to go for each....) Grateful for advice on how best to search - I'm used to Northern parishes that cover bigger areas!
