    3. Bev, The clue is in the web addresses, ".ie" is the Republic of Ireland and ".gov.uk" is Northern Ireland, part of the UK. While there have been a number of initiatives to provide single source records including Parish Records, the remaining Census and Griffiths, many government records are held in their respective archives. Some pre 1923 records(Army) are held in London. The archives do co-operate with common guidance leaflets and do try and give single access but there are different data protection rules in each country. Pre 1858 wills, like England, were probated in ecclesiastical courts based on bishoprics.. A number of sees cross the border. Derry, for example, includes a chunk of north-west Donegal.
