Thomas SCOTT and Margarett LOMAN were married in Woodbury on 3 September 1635. I am attempting to work out whether or not this Thomas is the same one whose daughter Grace was baptised in East Budleigh on 26 January 1639/40. Does the Woodbury marriage entry in the register give any indication of where the couple came from, please? Adrian
My 4X great grandparents, Jarvis NEWMAN and Julia HILL, were married at Ugborough, Devon, 20 May 1794. He was born at South Brent in 1762; she at North Huish in 1773. I have researched these and many others for over 30 years. Always looking for new contacts, cousins, etc. and anxious to share my data and answer questions. Haven't posted here for several years. There are a couple of possible baptisms at Exeter on Familysearch: 1778, 05 Jul St Mary Arches, Exeter, dau of Robert and Sarah 1785, 30 Jan St Edmunds, Exeter, dau of Stephen and Susanna. There is a burial of Sarah Tothill dau of Stephen 3rd Feb 1785 at St Thomas, Exeter so that eliminates one. Is this a coincidence or a clue on the 1851 census? The household listed immediately after William Channing's in Fore St, Heavitree, are a William Tothill aged 36, Joiner, born Heavitree, wife Charlotte and children. There is a baptism on Familysearch of William Tothill 12 Mar 1815, Heavitree, Exeter, parents Robart and Mary. There is a marriage at Heavitree 13 May 1814 of Robert Tothill and Mary Channing which seems a bit of a coincidence. William and Rebecca Channing were witnesses. Hi , Findmypast has a transcription of this marriage of 7 April 1803 and Sarah Tothill married William CHANNON , not Channing . I have checked the Militia list of St Sidwell`s 1803 on the Exeter pages of genuki/devon and did not find a Channing or Channon. Marriages of Exeter parishes are on the Deanery of Christianity cd from 1754-1812 . It also includes baptisms from 1813 to 1837.
