    3. Thanks to all who have added comments. I have removed all but one previous message from this as it just clutters up the archives. I downloaded the Tithe Apportionment Book for Hemyock from the DRO. There is a Richard Ackland as property owner. The index is not available yet so I shall have to read the whole book to look for tenants. The date is 1844, too late for both Thomas (1728) and Thomas (1759) who died 1827, 1837. In 1841 the only Acklands living in Hemyock are descendants of Henry, elder brother of Thomas (1759). In 1851 there is a Richard age 96 (corrected to 94) born Dunkeswell, a farmer living at Peacocks, West Buckland. With him are his granddaughter Mary Blackmore (indexed Blackman) age 26 as housekeeper plus a servant, both born at Hemyock. He is a definite possibility but I can't fit him into the Dunkeswell families. Many of the Blackdown Hills Acklands are descendants of Isaac Ackland of Hemyock who was probably born ca 1640. He was a Quaker, wonderful records but too many people are missing! I shall have a look in the Land Tax Assessments for Hemyock, 1780-1832. The AIGS in Melbourne have indexed these records for 108 Devon parishes but the Blackdown Hills are not yet included, I shall have to order the LDS film. About the possibility that Betty COOK was the one who inherited the money, a bit hard to check as I have not found a baptism for her, born ca 1766 at Uffculme. Thanks for your help. 3. Hi, what records have you accessed in the US ? I believe that the census are online and vital records too , that would seem your best bet. There are Cobey in the 1820 onward emigrant lists to New York but I don`t have world wide Ancestry access. In 1861 Mary Cobey is a widow, living in Tormoham , with Mary A Barton? described as dau , unm, 22 , ironer, b Buckfastleigh, Daniel Coby, ? son but with some other word or letters added, 18 , porter , b Plymouth, and George Pyne or Pym , nephew, 13 , porter , b Buckfastleigh. In the 1871 there is a Richard Coby , although it may well be Coley, married, 41, which makes him b 1830 , able seaman , b Plymouth. on board the Cornish Diamond . There is a Daniel Cobey death in the Sept 1868 quarter in Lambeth aged 55 . If Richard Coby is at sea in the 1871 he may well escape all the census , but I cannot find him on any BMD from 1865-1905 . that isn`t of course to say he didn`t return in 1906 . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shirley Ireland" <s.ireland345@btinternet.com> To: <devon@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 13, 2014 2:37 PM Subject: Re: [DEV] Help Needed > Hi Deborah, > > Thank you for your news, I have got all those, but it is later date that I > havent not got, like 1865, when he went to the USA, did he come back to > England or not. Does anyone have any connection with the BAZLEYs? I have followed the various family members through from 1790 to 1918 but would be interested to hear from anyone with any information about them. I have all their BMD records and census records. Lesley Abraham. Isle of Wight.

    3. Hi Elizabeth Thanks for your reply. There is a William Burridge baptised in Sandford in 1813, son of George & Ann Burridge. There is also a William Burridge baptised in Sandford in 1814, son of James & Elizabeth (Betty) Burridge. These 2 William Burridges are 1st cousins both named after their grandfather. I think the William who married Joanna Lock in Sandford in 1835, was the son of George, as in 1851, Joanna is the daughter-in-law, widow, living in the household of George & Ann, still in Sandford. So I wonder who the William Burridge is who "is still going strong in 1851 is? I am trying to find what happened to William baptised in 1814, the son of James & Elizabeth. Thanks for the information about James Ward, I have tried unsuccessfully, to find out more about him, as he may be a link somehow? Did you find him on a ship's manifest and was there any info on that list to provide clues as to his destination etc. I do not see him on any on-line New York passenger list, so if he got off at another port, say Boston, it would help tremendously in us targeting an area to search. cheers, pamela -----Original Message----- From: devon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:devon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Shirley Ireland Sent: Monday, January 13, 2014 10:38 AM To: devon@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DEV] Help Needed Hi Deborah, Thank you for your news, I have got all those, but it is later date that I havent not got, ....(snip)

    3. Hi, Discovery The National Archives, has three entries for this ( I think) MA Bozon, the first is his will dated 11 Jan 1809 , he is described as of Plymouth Dock . You can download this for £3.36. But I now see it is available on Ancestry to download if you have the subscription and this applies to the second will also . The second is a will of MA Bozon , of Le Mans, ( I am not going to make the obvious joke ) in the Dept of Sarthe , France. This is dated 13 Nov 1846. And lastly there is MA Bozon of the 93rd Foot date of service 1829 . You will probably have to send for this last . And finally there is a report on the death of Maj Gen Mackie , Governor of St Lucia, and his replacement by Lt Col Bozon of the 93rd regt , dated 1831. again this probably isn`t digitised so you would have to send for it . Ancestry has an article of clerkship dated 1801 , which binds John Wells Bozon son of MA Bozon to John Harris of Plymouth Dock , Attorney of the Court of the King`s Bench and a solicitor in the High Court of Chancery . , dated 1801 . Also from Ancestry Pallot`s marriage index has a marriage of a MA Bozon to Jane Worthonbury , it says Blackfriars 1786 . There are two entries in the London Gazette one dated 1802 and the other 1824 , the latter says that MA Bozon has transferred without purchase from half pay to the 81st foot . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave and Linda Burnett" <burnettd@shaw.ca> To: <devon@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2014 6:35 PM Subject: [DEV] Mark Anthony BOZON > This story is a long one so I will condense it severely. > My 3G Grandfather Isaac Charles Smith COLLETT married Sophia BOZON, May > 19, 1807, in her home town of Stoke Damerel, Devon England. 1. [DEV] Beaford Lookups
    2. Lance L. Piatt
    3. Dear List Members, I have some lookups in Beaford Parish that would be useful with the research I am doing for a friend of mine. I’ve tried the on-line Parish Clerk and have not received a response. I do not know if the records are not available, or if the Parish Clerk is unable to respond. All events would have taken place between 1853 – 1881. Most likely in Beaford. Can anybody help me please. Regards, Lance

    1. Re: [DEV] Topsham mariners and the Barbary Corsairs -> copyright
    2. Thanks Bev for those details. I am part of a small research group working with Teignmouth Museum looking at fishermen and boat owners who fished in the Grand Banks, maybe emigrated to Newfoundland and were from Teignmouth so am very interested. I have no date at the moment to go to the Devon Heritage Centre (new title of DRO) but next time i go I will look this up or one of my colleagues may do so. I'll be in touch again then thanks again Mary in Torquay -----Original Message----- From: B.
