Hello Norman, There is a link to Genuki Devon at the bottom of all these Devon list messages but here it is: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DEV Click on the link, click on Devon Towns and Parishes, go to the Broadhempston page, click on Church Records and you will see the link to the transcripts. Regards, Joy Langdon ----Original message---- >From : [email protected] Date : 03/06/2016 - 00:50 (GMTST) To : [email protected] Subject : [DEV] Richard Full Hello, Some considerable time ago, I hit a brick wall searching for my ancestor, Richard Full (possible parents Thomas & Joan Full). The earliest record found was his marriage to Susanna crossing at Woodland in 1700. One of the possible places he may have lived was Broadhempston. I note that in May 2016," Broadhempston Parish Registers (1678-1900) transcript (11pages)" were added to Genuki/ Devon. My old memory has let me down again & I have forgotten how to access this new information. Can someone please help me. I would be very grateful Thank you Norman Full Australia ------------------------------------------ The DEVON-L mailing list is co-sponsored by GENUKI/Devon http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DEV/ and the Devon FHS (http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/ ) List archive for Devon can be found at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=devon ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [DEV] BROWN/CHING help
    2. sieler_pauline via
    3. Please excuse this lengthy e-mail I wondered if anyone else is looking at Brown/Ching line from Plymouth/Slapton I am after a bit of help and verification if anyone could please I have a lady called Ann Elizabeth Brown in the 1851 census living in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight but listed as being born in Plymouth Her mother living with the family is Sarah Brown listed as being born in Crediton and as a widow I know from Ann's marriage cert that her father is a mariner and his name is John I have found a birth of Ann Elizabeth Brown in Stoke Damerel which I believe is in Plymouth with parents Sarah and John (3/12/1787) I am hoping that this is my Ann I then looked for the wedding and there is a wedding in Stoke Damerel of John Brown to Sarah Hancock(widow) in 1811 There is a Stephen Hancock marrying a Sarah Ching in Stoke Damerel in 1803 and the subsequent marriage to John Brown has a William Ching as witness. John Brown is a seaman in the marriage info However, for both marriages it says that the bride and groom are 'of this parish' The only Sarah Ching I can find of an appropriate age comes from Slapton but does have a brother William. There are also Chings living in Stoke Damerel and I wondered if Sarah had moved from Slapton to other family ion Plymouth where there may have been more work I am not sure if this would all be correct or not as in 1851 Sarah has said that she came from Crediton. When I checked a Hancock had married a Sarah Pearse in Stoke Damerel and there was a Sarah Pearse born in Crediton at the appropriate time but the Ching witness to the second marriage made me think that way Ann has a brother Joseph who is supposedly born in Dartmouth in 1826 but I can't find his birth The only 1841 entry for John and Sarah Brown in Devon is a family in Lympston who also have a 22 year old son living with them called Thomas Sarah Ching's parents are John and Elizabeth Manningand the only possible marriage for them that I can find is at East Allington in 1776 but I can't find any further information about them I cannot find out anything about John Brown If anyone can please help me in any way either to verify any of this or who is following the same line or who has other suggestions I would love to hear from you Many thanks Pauline

    2. Joy Langdon via
    3. As someone has already pointed out, there is a marriage indexed on FreeBMD for Elsie Augusta Clarke but there is no Herbert Grillage listed. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain the details about the bride and groom's fathers to see if Herbert is using the name FitzGerald is to purchase the marriage certificate. There is a birth registered at St Thomas registration quarter earlier than 1908: Dec 1904 Herbert F Grillage St Thomas 5b 37 This child died as a death is registered Mar 1905. I don't have a subscription to FMP but there is a burial of Herbert Fitzwilliam Grillage at Mamhead in 1905. I can't see a birth indexed for Frederick George Grillage or an entry on the 1911 census, could they have been abroad? Frederick George Grillage was killed whilst serving in the RAF in 1944. His service records might give birth date and place. I think the RAF still hold these records. His Service number, squadron etc are on the Commonwealth War Graves site: www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2054323/GRILLAGE,%20FREDERICK%20GEORGE On the 1939 register on FMP I think Morfa is transcribed as Mor? (Ann) Grillage and is in Hertfordshire, Watford R. D. The preview shows Margit Vajmar listed on the residence plus one more person who is officially closed (possibly Frederick?). You are probably aware that Herbert's parents, Peter and Temperance, had connections to Florence Nightingale. Peter was a Russian orphan that Florence had brought back from the Crimea and Temperance had been a servant to Florence. Florence Nightingale left them £150 in her will. A book Florence Nightingale presented to Herbert was sold at auction a few years ago: http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/international-autograph-auctions/catalogue-id-in310006/lot-912370ac-2365-493f-a92a-a3fb00fdf1e5 Joy ----Original message---- >From : [email protected] Date : 29/05/2016 - 01:02 (GMTST) To : [email protected] Subject : [DEV] Marriage of Herbert Grillage Can SKS help please. 1. Re: [DEV] Marriage of Herbert Grillage
    2. Paul Hockie via
    3. Paul, Based on Anne's findings, it may be time to buy some certificates. Herbert's life before and after the marriage and the birth of Frederick are fairly east to trace. This includes FMP newspaper stories as a garage and taxi owner in the 1920's . He appears in all census from 1881 to 1901 as born in Dorset the son on a Russian immigrant. Around 1908 there was unrest about immigration and many immigrants changed or anglised their name but then reverted back. I would start with the Fitzgerald and Frederick George wedding certificates in particular ages and fathers. 1. Was Frederick George illegitimate and either registered in his mother's name or not at all. He gave his date of birth as 1907 but Elsie Augusta Clarke's wedding was 1908. Elsie would only be 18 at this time. 2. Were there 2 Elsie Augusta Clarkes but I can find no evidence. 3. Was Herbert Gerald Fitzgerald a real person or just a change of name. I can't see anyone of this name in the Plymouth area. Was he a sailor who had no intention of staying and did Herbert just move in and start living as man and wife. 4. Did Herbert spend some time overseas either in the services to seek his fortune. I noticed that Frederick's wife Morfa is on various ships lists on FMP. >From Familysearch.org Frederick George Grillage England, Devon, Parish Registers, 1538-1912 birth: 1907 marriage: 1935 Devon spouse: Morfa Ann Roose Frederick George Grillage Find A Grave Index death: 3 December 1944 burial: 1944 Venray, Venray Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands These are the only two Grillage events in Devon 1900-1910 apart from the death of Peter, Herbert's father. Who is he? GRILLAGE HERBERT F 1904 - 1904 England & Wales births 1837-2006 St. Thomas, Devon, England GRILLAGE HERBERT F W 1905 1905 1905 England & Wales deaths 1837-2007 St. Thomas, Devon, England Finally this is on Ancestry with an image. 3. I would suggest you search the indexes at FindMyPast - if you locate the marriage you can obtain access to the image of the register using pay per view. The marriage would probably be before 1660 as another Peter (whom I believe was his son ) was born in Staverton in that year . I've tried the usual web sites but no luck .
