I am helping another genealogy researcher with tracing her family line back to this region and have a bit of a mystery. I am hoping that one of you might be able to shed some light. I found the 1881 mairrage record of Franz Xaver KOEHLY and Caroline Maegerle in Renchen. It listes the birthdate of Franz Xaver, who is of Urloffen, and parents' names. I then go to the baptismal records of Urloffen and find that there is a Xaver KOENIG with the exact same birthdate and parents' names of the mairrage record. I am fairly certain that Franz Xaver KOEHLY married in Renchen is Xaver Koehnig born in Urloffen - too much of a coincidence in dates and parents' names. However, I can't explain the difference in surnames. Does anyone know if there is any significance in the name difference or perhaps why there might have been a name change? Thanks.
