Dear fellow genealogists, again, I am "lost" in the Ortenau area .... First, I have puzzling information about Franz Zapf "from Muehlbach", as I can read in a 1700 church book entry. There were some Zapfs before that date in Milstein, even a Franz Zapf born in 1657 (church book Nordrach). As both places refer to a mill, I find it possible that both places are identical. Nevertheless, I am not sure about. As I know, there was a Muehlenbach next to Haslach (but no church book of that period seems to exist, and no Zapfs living there in the 17th century), and a Milstein next to Nordrach. Could it be possible that the reverend who wrote the 1700 entry in Gengenbach could have maken a mistake?? Second, I am tracing some Schilis from Fußbach/Gengenbach area. The Gengenbach church book offers the birth od Matthis Schili in 1651, son of Georg S., as first entry (although it goes back to 1587). Is it possible Fussbach was called differently before that or is Fussbach data before 1650 to be found elsewhere? Third, the same goes for Schoenberg/Schimbert next to Biberach. Entries are in the Gengenbach church book from 1670 on. The name I am tracing is Johann Michael Reinert, married the second time in 1670to Barbara Armbruster. But no entry earlier than that in Gengenbach. So, my question is the same as in the previous case. Who might help? Thanks a lot and have a fine day Kurt Erlemann Wuppertal.
