    1. RE: [Ortenau] spelling on names

    3. Wendelin, Thank you for the reply. Yes, it might be Lehmänn, although I really did read the second letter as an "o". The town of Diersburg was spelled Dierspurg, it appeared, too - but I figured that one out by looking at a map. I've been so use to "dropping" the final "in" for females when translating into English, that I can't even remember if that Lohmänn had the "in" or not. Here are the two dates you requested: Joseph Ex born and baptized 27 Jan 1740 son of Andrea Ex & Anna Maria Lohmänn? and Carolus Gallus & Theresia Heitzmann married 26 Feb 1781 son of Joseph Gallus & Magdalena Merckler (deceased) daughter of Georg Heitzmann & Ursula Zeist? from Diersburg Witnesses: Joseph Gallus, Valentinus Feist, and Andreas Saar of Diersburg. I know that Carolus is Latin for Carl. As you know, we "drop" the "o" to distinguish male and female. Is that the same in German? Thank you again, Wendelin! Possible spellings of the surname Eggs are: Egs, Eks, Öks, Ögs, Ex, Öx I have Eggs ancestors from Niederschopfheim. > Also, there's the confusing German letter that I've seen used as an "h" or > an "f" or an "s". So who knows the right spelling of this name? > 1. Lohmänn > 2. Lofmänn > 3. Losmänn Perhaps you mean Lehmännin, the female version of Lehmann? Please tell me the date of the entry, maybe I have copies of this date. > Also in this same town was a marriage of a Theresia Heitzmann who's parents > were listed as Georg Heitzmann & Ursula Zeist? from Diersburg. When you tell me the dates of these entries of Niederschopfheim I am maybe able to check it. - Wendelin ==== DEU-BAD-ORTENAU Mailing List ==== A list of Historic and Current towns of the Ortenau can be found at < http://ortenau.speedyspace.de/ >. ============================== Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree.
