    3. Hello Listers, While working on some Niederschopfheim records, I've run into the "Egs" surname, which I believe to be the earlier version of Eggs. But when looking for a baptismal record back in the early 1700's for a Joseph "Egs", I could only find a Joseph "Ex" at the appropriate time period. Phonetically, both surnames sound close to the same. Has anyone seen these two names meaning the same? I did not see the name "Ex" in later years. Also, there's the confusing German letter that I've seen used as an "h" or an "f" or an "s". So who knows the right spelling of this name? 1. Lohmänn 2. Lofmänn 3. Losmänn Comparing other words, usually during this time period, this letter was an "f" or an "s", but "h" just seems right to me - for no good reason, though! Also in this same town was a marriage of a Theresia Heitzmann who's parents were listed as Georg Heitzmann & Ursula Zeist? from Diersburg. Has anyone studied records in that town to know if Zeist was a surname as one of the witnesses was Valentinus Feist. If I would have questioned any letter in Zeist, again it would have been that interchangeable f/s/h German letter, as the "Z" looked right. Carol Rogers
