Another Germanic List has offered a URL which could be enlightening for any of us with early ancestor emigrants from the German countries. Cornell University Library has digitized and put online a number of books and articles. At < http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/moa/sgml/moa-idx?notisid=ABQ7578-0011-3 >, a ninteen page article originally published July 1820 in The North American review of the University of Nothern Iowa is an article titled "The German in North America". This English language article is stated to be a reprint or reprisal of an 1818 German article published in Stuttgart/Tübingen. I may be old but I was not around when it was first published so I can not vouch for its authenticity but after reading it a couple of times, it seems very logical that this work does cover the life or plight of that early-to-America Germanic emigrant. At least some humor, or perhaps sense, if nothing more may be found in the paragraph on page 4 which explains a better life for those who had not emigrated from Württemberg after the new King sold his father's menagerie and transferred the food storage of potatoes which had been amassed for the kangaroos and elephants to the people. djweber djwdjw@ix.netcom.com
