As others of you know, there are two pages of German emigrants from Böhlsbach that came over to Missouri, leaving from Le Havre, France, and arriving January 30, 1843, through New Orleans, Louisiana, on the ship Mozart - such names as Jokerst, Siebert, Gutle, Grass, Schilling, Werner, Schmiederer, Basler, Kiefer, and more. I'm now trying to identify as many of those as possible. Lorenz Jokerst and wife, Ursula (nee Kempf), came over with 18yr old daughter, Rosina, who later married Henry Wilder (both Henry and Rosina buried in Valle Springs Cemetery). Lorenz and Ursula were married 26 Feb 1821 in Böhlsbach and had 4 other children who previously died young in Böhlsbach which I already have info on. Does anyone know where Lorenz and Ursula were buried? Also, there is a "60" year old Maria "Joekers" (as the name was spelled) that came over with them. Could this be Lorenz's mother, Anna Maria nee Lurck, who was born in Böhlsbach on 1 Sep 1772 - which would have made her 70 and not 60 when emigrating? If so, does anyone know where she was buried? Father of Lorenz was Johannes Jokerst who died in Böhlsbach 21 Feb 1816 - so it makes sense that Anna Maria (if still living) might have emigrated with son, Lorenz. Carol
The message listed below was sent to the Ortenau List but not accepted by Rootsweb. It was intended for Carol Rogers who probably has received the information already through the Mostegen List. However, for the information of the other members of the Ortenau List, I am forwarding the comments of < abehrens@ix.netcom.com >. ------------ The 1860 census in Ste Genevieve shows a "Lawrance" Jokerst, 63, M, and "Oceolla" Jokerst, 70, F. Farmers born in Baden. That makes them 24 and 31, respectively, when they married in 1821. The whole clan must have come over. There are 4 or 5 other Jokerst families listed in Ste Genevieve, all headed by parents born in Baden. Art B. St Louis ------------ djweber djwdjw@ix.netcom.com
