Hans, Before the Oensbacher Familienbuch was published I was in contact with Ellen Gerwitz. My oldest Jacob Weber is born in Oensbach and therefore I have many copies of the Catholic church books. All the Gerwitz information at that time were from these copies, and I told her so. The Oensbacher family book is very good and without hesitation I do recommend it. Would be very interested to have your information from you to your immigrant ancestor. A very valuable addition that I pass on to Eugen Weber. Rose Goutbeck nee Weber in sunny Alberta, Canada. All the Canadian Geese have now gone south to a warmer climate.
Rose, I'm very glad to hear that you and Ellen corroborated! Do you know why her records have many spellings of Gerwitz (Görrwitz, Gehrwitz) but the Önsbach Familienbuck uses only Gerwitz? My database started with that of Debbi Girth, who's largest source was Ellen. I have left a lot of Onsbach families in it hoping to attract other researchers… I think I even have your name. Where in Alberta are you? Seattle is not too far away. Anyone who wants to know more about the living members of my line is can either create an account at http://www.gerwitz.com/genealogy/ (living individuals are hidden unless you log in) or ask me directly. Here's an overview: My Gerwitz immigrant is Simon (b. 1842 to Raimund and Theresa Weber) who arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1867. Simon married Elizabeth Reck just before emigrating. (I have Elizabeth's parents Joseph and Francisca Schoenen but no farther.) Simon and Elizabeth had 8 children in St. Louis: http://www.gerwitz.com/genealogy/family.php?famid=F2889 The 4th was William Anthony b. 19 Aug 1875 d. 6 Dec 1948. William married Clara Deitermann in 1903. (Clara's parents, Bernard and Catherine Buehrmann, are also German immigrants that I have no details for.) William and Clara had 8 children: http://www.gerwitz.com/genealogy/family.php?famid=F2891 The 4th was Francis Anthony b. 18 Nov 1909 d. 7 Jul 1961. Francis married Mary Virginia Kuhlman 22 Feb 1936. (I have a good bit of information for M. Virginia from Perry County, Missouri.) Francis and M. Virginia had 5 children: http://www.gerwitz.com/genealogy/family.php?famid=F4608 The 3rd was John Francis b. 25 Nov 1943 d. 11 Jul 2005. John married Catherine Rasch 26 Nov 1947 (later divorced) John and Catherine had 2 children, I am the 1st. --- hans.gerwitz On 8 Nov 2008, at 8:20, Peter Goutbeck wrote: > Hans, > > Before the Oensbacher Familienbuch was published I was in contact with > Ellen Gerwitz.
