My g-gfather Ferdinand OTT (of Rammersweier) first stopped in Cincinnati in 1855, where he filed his Notice of Intent to file for citizenship. Whether he went there because he knew someone, I have not been able to determine. By 1860, he was further west, in Harrison Co., IN, where in 1870 he finally became a citizen. He had encountered a slight delay in the process; something about "selling spirits on the Sabbath" and other similar indiscretions. But, hey, a guy has to make a living.
Jack, Would that be the father of William and Thomas Ott of Harrison County, IN. ?
